Jackson County Chamber of Commerce
One way the refinery helps support local business is through active membership in the
Jackson County Chamber of Commerce. The refinery’s Procurement team encourages material and service providers to join and participate in the Chamber. Procurement also coordinates the refinery’s participation in the Jackson County Industrial Trade Show by staffing a Chevron booth at the annual event. The trade show provides a unique opportunity for suppliers and contractors to network with buyers and sourcing decision-makers to showcase their products and services.
In 2006, Chevron Pascagoula Refinery and Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College (MGCCC) partnered to create an innovative Petrochemical Technology program. Led by Chevron retiree Tommie Ann Broome, the courses train students to work at the refinery and other plants across the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
Chevron considers the program to be a “pipeline” into its hiring process. An associate’s degree in petrochemical technology will provide potential employees with the educational background to work at the refinery.
In fact, during the four years since its inception, Chevron has hired 14 Petrochemical Technology graduates, hosted 37 interns and co-ops, and provided course scholarships to 16 students.
The Petrochemical Program is taught at MGCCC’s Jackson County campus in Gautier, where students are trained on equipment similar to that used at the Refinery.
